NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Here's a scene you don't see everyday at a Vanderbilt football game: Scores of people walking around looking for tickets.
Vanderbilt faces Auburn in a little more than an hour in a matchup of two nationally ranked teams that's the most anticipated game around here in a long, long time.
There are no tickets to be found. Auburn and Vanderbilt fans were walking around everywhere outside Vanderbilt Stadium holding up fingers and looking for tickets. Vanderbilt sports information director Larry Leathers said it's the toughest ticket for a game here since No. 6-ranked Notre Dame came to town in 1996 to open the season. The Irish won that game 14-7.
The Commodores are in their all-black uniforms, and already the student section is starting to fill up. Many of the Vanderbilt fans are still making their way over from The Commons area on campus where ESPN's College GameDay has been broadcasting from all day.
David Williams, Vanderbilt's vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics, noted earlier this week that the city of Nashville was hosting a couple of marquee events this week -- GameDay on Saturday and the Presidential Debate on Tuesday.
"Belmont got the debate, but I told everybody, 'Hey, we got GameDay," Williams cracked.
There were tons of witty signs surrounding the GameDay set. One of the best ones read: The geeks shall inherit the turf.
