Gators lead the way in updated ESPN 300

The ESPN Recruiting Nation folks have updated their ESPN 300 list, and Florida is setting the pace in the SEC with five of the top 50 prospects nationally committed.

The Gators are tied with USC, which also has commitments from five of the top 50 prospects in the newest rankings.

Alabama isn't far behind with four commitments ranked among the top 50 prospects.

Defensive end Robert Nkemdiche of Loganville, Ga., remains the country's top overall prospect. He's committed to Clemson, but Ole Miss is pushing hard. Nkemdiche's younger brother, Denzel Nkemdiche, is a redshirt freshman at Ole Miss and tied for the team lead in tackles.

The highest-ranked new member of the ESPN 300 is defensive end Chris Jones of Houston, Miss. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Jones has been committed to Mississippi State since June when he impressed the Bulldogs at their camp.

Defensive end Carl Lawson of Alpharetta, Ga., is the highest-ranked prospect committed to an SEC school. Lawson is No. 2 overall and committed to Auburn. Right behind him is cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III of Tampa, Fla. Hargreaves is No. 3 overall and committed to Florida.

Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina and Texas A&M all have at least one ESPN 150 prospect committed.
