SEC Player of the Week

11/26/2012

For those who didn't know much -- or really anything -- about Donte Moncrief before the weekend, they probably know a lot more today.

Against Mississippi State in Saturday's Egg Bowl, Ole Miss' sophomore wide receiver had a career day in the Rebels' 41-24 win. He caught seven passes for a career-high 173 yards and three touchdowns. His 173 receiving yards are the fourth-most in a single game in Ole Miss history. He's now tied for the most touchdown receptions in a single season for the Rebels with 10.

When the Rebels needed a spark, Moncrief was there. With the game going back-and-forth in the first half, Moncrief gave Ole Miss a surge of momentum with his 77-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter to make it 17-14 Ole Miss. He then put the game out of reach late in the third quarter with touchdown receptions of 21 and 16 yards that led to Ole Miss having a 34-17 lead heading into the final frame.

Moncrief abused Mississippi State's talented secondary all night. Of Moncrief's seven catches, four of them went for more than 20 yards, including a 42-yarder on the second play from scrimmage for the Rebels.

Moncrief might be one of the most underrated players in the SEC, but his overall talent is unquestionable.
