Mark Stoops replaces Phillips at Kentucky

Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has agreed to become Kentucky's next head coach.
Stoops replaces Joker Phillips, who was fired after three straight losing seasons. Stoops has been the defensive coordinator at Florida State since 2009 and has been regarded as one of the top defensive coordinators in the game for the past few years.
The Seminoles are currently ranked second nationally in total defense, but it's interesting to see Kentucky go in the defensive direction. The thought was that the Wildcats would go after an up-and-coming offensive mind.
But defense does rule the SEC and if the Wildcats are going to make strides, improving that defense will be key, as the Wildcats ranked 11th in total defense in the SEC this season and 10th last year.
Check back on the SEC blog for more on Stoops' hire.
