MIAMI -- The Alabama players have done their best to avoid any talk of a dynasty leading up to Monday night’s Discover BCS National Championship.
But there will be no avoiding it if the No.2 Crimson Tide can take care of No. 1 Notre Dame and win their third national title in the past four years.
Make no mistake. This is a football team chasing history, but it’s also not a football team that’s caught up in that pursuit of history.
The fact that it’s Alabama versus Notre Dame makes it all the more special.
Just the blend of crimson and green out in the parking lots surrounding Sun Life Stadium prior to the game was something to see. Maybe that’s why former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was sporting the shades on the set of ESPNU’s pregame show.
One of the questions I’ve been asked most often this week here in South Florida is whether or not Alabama still has that same fire after having won two of the past three national titles.
But what Alabama coach Nick Saban has sold this team on is that this is this team’s time and its chance to carve out its own slice of history.
And put the final crimson-coated brick on a dynasty.
