Athlon Sports has ranked its top 50 quarterbacks of the BCS era, and eight played in the SEC.
The BCS era stretches back to 1998, so anybody who played before that wouldn't be included.
The No. 1 quarterback on Athlon's list was Texas' Vince Young, who beat out Florida's Tim Tebow.
Do you agree?
Tebow won two national championship rings at Florida and had better stats, but Tebow also played one more season in college than Young. They both were Heisman Trophy winners during their careers.
Four SEC quarterbacks were included in the top 20, and some people might be surprised at the No. 2 SEC quarterback on the list.
Alabama's AJ McCarron was No. 7. He's led the Crimson Tide to back-to-back national championships, so it's hard to argue with his track record of winning.
The one that will draw the most debate is Auburn's Cam Newton at No. 16. Granted, he only played one season at Auburn (and one season as a reserve at Florida before getting into trouble and leaving), but the season he had in 2010 was one of the greatest individual seasons for any player in college football history.
Here's a rundown of all the SEC quarterbacks on the list:
No. 2 Tim Tebow, Florida
No. 7 AJ McCarron, Alabama
No. 16 Cam Newton, Auburn/Florida
No. 19 Chris Leak, Florida
No. 22 Eli Manning, Ole Miss
No. 30 Aaron Murray, Georgia
No. 31 David Greene, Georgia
No. 36 Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M
A few more SEC quarterbacks were on the "next 25," including Georgia's Matthew Stafford, Florida's Rex Grossman and Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler. Manziel will surely move up this list if he has another season in 2013 close to the one he had a year ago. Who else is missing?
