It's fitting that the two defensive coordinators in Saturday's SEC championship game have been named as finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in college football.

Alabama's Kirby Smart and Florida's Charlie Strong are among the five finalists, joining Cincinnati's Jeff Quinn, Boise State's Bryan Harsin and TCU's Dick Bumpas.

Florida is ranked first nationally in scoring defense and total defense, while Alabama is ranked second in scoring defense and third in total defense.

Strong is a three-time finalist for the award. He was a finalist in 2000 while coaching at South Carolina and has been a finalist the last two years at Florida.
