The USA Today Poll was announced on Thursday, and the SEC is heavily represented, as we get closer and closer to the 2013 regular season.
The SEC had six representatives inside the top 25 poll, including five being ranked in the top 10. Defending national champion Alabama ranks No. 1 in the poll, receiving 58 first-place votes, while Georgia ranks fifth, Texas A&M ranks sixth (one first-place vote) and South Carolina ranks seventh. Florida ranks 10th.
LSU is the only other team from the SEC inside the preseason poll, ranking 13th.
Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Arkansas all received votes for the top 25. Ole Miss received 32 votes, while Vandy received 29.
I was surprised that Vanderbilt, which finished last season ranked in both the USA Today and the Associated Press polls, didn't make the cut for the first 25. The Commodores have a lot of offensive firepower coming back and most of the parts to last year's top-20 defense.
But we all know that preseason polls can be deceiving. Last year, Arkansas began the season ranked 10th in the USA Today Poll, but failed to even make a bowl game at season's end. LSU ranked first, but later lost three games. Florida entered the season 23rd, but finished with 11 wins, a BCS bowl berth and ranked 10th. And Auburn started the year ranked 25th, but only won four games and went winless against SEC opponents.
