The coaches’ ballots have been released for the final USA Today coaches poll, and there were some interesting choices involving SEC teams and SEC coaches.
The six SEC coaches voting were Kentucky’s Rich Brooks, LSU’s Les Miles, Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, Georgia’s Mark Richt, Alabama’s Nick Saban and South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier.
Of note, Miles voted unbeaten Cincinnati No. 8, the lowest any coach voted the Bearcats. Miles had Florida No. 3 behind Alabama and Texas.
Of course, outgoing Louisiana-Monroe coach Charlie Weatherbie left LSU completely off his Top 25 ballot.
Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly voted Alabama No. 2 behind his Bearcats and had Florida No. 7. Memphis coach Tommy West also had the Gators No. 7.
Spurrier kept Florida No. 4, ahead of Cincinnati and Boise State.
Despite his Bulldogs blasting Ole Miss 41-27 in the regular-season finale, Mullen still ranked the Rebels No. 19 on his final ballot, the highest anybody ranked Ole Miss. Mullen also kept Florida No. 3 ahead of TCU and Cincinnati.
South Carolina got a No. 18 vote (its only vote) from Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill, a former assistant at both South Carolina and Clemson.
Florida State coach Bobby Bowden voted Georgia No. 25, the Bulldogs’ only vote. Bowden and Georgia coach Mark Richt remain extremely close.
