Charlie Strong, who was named the head coach at Louisville on Wednesday, said he would remain as Florida's defensive coordinator through the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

At this point, Strong said he doesn't plan to take any Florida assistants with him, but that could always change.

He's the seventh Urban Meyer assistant to get a head coaching job and the second in as many years. Dan Mullen went to Mississippi State last year.

I can't think of anybody who's more deserving of this opportunity than Strong, who's been passed over repeatedly in recent years by coaches who were less qualified and had accomplished less during their careers.

Strong never allowed himself to become bitter, kept his head down and kept working hard.

Now he gets his chance, one that's long overdue.

It's proof that good things do happen to good people ... and to deserving people.
