Auburn's Gus Malzahn has been named the Home Depot Coach of the Year after orchestrating one of the biggest turnarounds in college football history.
Malzahn will receive his award on Thursday as part of The Home Depot College Awards show, airing at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Malzahn arrived last December and took over an Auburn team that failed to win a single SEC game. In his first season, the Tigers went 12-1, won the conference championship and earned a spot in the VIZIO BCS National Championship Game, where they will play Florida State on Jan. 6.
The 8 1/2 game turnaround matches the all-time mark set by Hawaii back in 1999.
