In its final tune-up before the Black & Gold spring scrimmage this Saturday, Vanderbilt's offense ended this past Saturday's scrimmage with a flurry.

Quarterback Jared Funk guided the first touchdown drive after the defense had dominated for much of the scrimmage. Warren Norman and Zac Stacy each had big runs in the drive.

Charlie Goro led a second consecutive scoring drive on the next possession. Kennard Reeves had several key plays in that drive, including a 16-yard touchdown run.

“Our guys are playing hard," Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson said. "We’re emphasizing the red zone and third-down situations, trying to make sure we’re a little more efficient there. Some injuries and sickness limited us a little bit, but I thought we did pretty well today.

“[Injuries] are a part of the [regular] season, and you have to be prepared to go with other guys you have confidence in. That’s what spring practice is all about, creating more depth and finding players that want to contribute to this team. We’re making progress there."

Among the Commodores who did not participate Saturday were linebacker Chris Marve, defensive tackles T.J. Greenstone and Colt Nichter, offensive tackle Caleb Welchans and cornerback Eric Samuels.

Quarterback Larry Smith was on the field for the first drive of the scrimmage for the Commodores.
