Gators only SEC school to score hat trick
By ESPN.com staff
With the college baseball Super Regionals set to begin later this week, Florida finds itself in exclusive company.
The Gators are one of only two schools nationally this year -- the other one being Texas -- that can say they played in a BCS bowl game in football, made it to the NCAA Tournament in men’s basketball and advanced to the Super Regionals in baseball.
It’s another reminder of how well-rounded and how strong Florida’s athletic program has been, particularly under athletic director Jeremy Foley.
Florida and Alabama were among four schools this year that had their football teams finish in the top 10 and their baseball teams advance to Super Regional play. The other two were TCU and Texas.
A year ago, Florida, TCU and Texas were the only three schools nationally to finish in the top 10 in football and advance to the Super Regionals in baseball.
Florida was also the only school in the SEC to go to a bowl game in football and make it to the NCAA Tournament in both men’s basketball and baseball.
On the flip side, Mississippi State was the only school in the SEC to miss all three.
