'Eight ain't enough' for Auburn

HOOVER, Ala. – The momentum in Auburn’s program right now speaks for itself.

The Tigers won eight games in Gene Chizik’s first season and are coming off a top-5 recruiting class nationally.

But senior linebacker Josh Bynes made it clear Friday that last year was just the start.

“Eight ain’t it. Eight ain’t enough. That’s been our theme all offseason,” Bynes said. “It’s something Yox (strength coach Kevin Yoxall) came up with. We want a lot more than eight wins this season and have put in the work to get there.”

In particular, Bynes said the Tigers will be a deeper team and said it’s obvious from summer workouts that the freshmen will help fill in the gaps.

Bynes and fellow linebacker Craig Stevens had to play just about every meaningful snap a year ago because Auburn simply didn’t have anybody behind them.

“It’s not going to change the way I play,” Bynes said. “But by the ninth and 10th week, you’ll be able to tell it by the way your body feels. We’re all going to have more in the tank to finish the season the right way this year.”

Auburn, which started out 5-0, lost five of its final six SEC games last season, but rebounded to beat Northwestern in overtime in the Outback Bowl.
