Tennessee announced the dismissal Thursday of offensive tackle Ramone Johnson and receiver E.J. Abrams-Ward for disciplinary reasons. Johnson would have been a junior next season and Abrams-Ward a redshirt freshman.
Johnson was a reserve last season and played in the Vols' jumbo sets as an extra tight end. He would have been in line to win one of the starting tackle jobs next season. Abrams-Ward redshirted last season, but was considered one of the best all-around athletes on the team.
His dismissal is another blow to a 2008 signing class that was already one of the lowest rated of former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer's career. Abrams-Ward was the No. 1 prospect in the state of North Carolina and easily the top out-of-state prospect the Vols signed that year.
