All eyes on Gators' Jeff Demps
By Chris Low
Will he play, or won't he?
And if he does play, how effective will he be?
An air of uncertainty surrounds Florida's top playmaker, Jeff Demps, heading into Saturday's showdown with No. 1-ranked Alabama. A sprained left foot is the problem, and he was unable to go full speed through practice Thursday.
Florida coach Urban Meyer remains hopeful that Demps will be able to play in the game even though he's done very little in practice this week. Demps was still in a walking boot away from the football field.
The Gators should know more about Demps' availability after he tests out his foot again Friday morning.
Either way, it looks like Florida will have to rely on Emmanuel Moody, Mike Gillislee and freshman Mack Brown a lot more in the running game even if Demps can play.
Probably college football's fastest player, Demps is third in the SEC in all-purpose yards, averaging 172 yards per game.
