Lattimore to return for Gamecocks

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday that freshman running back Marcus Lattimore would return to the lineup this week against Tennessee.

Lattimore sat out last week's game against Vanderbilt with a sprained ankle, although he probably could have played. The Gamecocks didn't want to chance it, which was the right call considering how crucial this upcoming stretch is for them.

They're going to need Lattimore at 100 percent. After he was injured and left the game against Kentucky two weeks ago, South Carolina's offense went belly-up in the second half in a 31-28 loss to the Wildcats.

Spurrier said Lattimore was close to 100 percent after watching him practice Monday night and that he was "ready to go."

There's a chance that senior Brian Maddox may start against Tennessee after rushing for a career-high 146 yards last week, but Lattimore won't have to wait long to get into the game.
