|ESPN.com: SEC||[Print without images]|

My cohorts at ESPN.com (the ones to "blame" are Pat Forde, Ivan Maisel and Mark Schlabach) have taken on the thankless task of cutting down the FBS to 40 schools.
That's right, only 40.
Who in the SEC will make the cut? Better yet, who in the SEC won't make the cut?
I'd say it doesn't look good for Kentucky, Mississippi State or Vanderbilt.
In a live draft at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Forde, Maisel and Schlabach will be picking "a fast and furious 40 power programs."
What we are doing here is performing a hangeronectomy -- a ruthless downsizing of the cumbersomely named and gruesomely bloated Football Bowl Subdivision. Just as in corporate America, 2009 is the time to get lean in college football. It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys, the Trojans of USC from the Trojans of Troy.
Those of you who want to have your voices heard can vote in the SportsNation poll.
My best guess is that at least seven SEC teams will make the cut. We'll find out for sure Tuesday.
