Big day for Commodores

By Chris Low

Vanderbilt picked up three of its top targets in the state of Tennessee on Friday when running back Brian Kimbrow of Memphis, defensive end Caleb Azubike of Nashville and receiver Cory Batey of Nashville all announced at a news conference that they planned to sign with the Commodores.

The Commodores now have 11 commitments for the 2012 class under first-year coach James Franklin.

Kimbrow is considered one of the top prospects in the state of Tennessee and has great speed, which was a priority for Vanderbilt in this class. Franklin said one of the things that stuck out this spring was how lacking Vanderbilt was in terms of speedy playmakers on offense.

Vanderbilt's class was ranked No. 24 nationally in ESPN's latest rankings. The Commodores now have four four-star prospects committed after not landing a single four-star player, according to ESPN, in each of the past two classes.
