The SEC's best 25 players: No. 13

By Edward Aschoff

Today one of the most unheralded players makes our list. He's one of the best at the defensive end position, but might not get the respect he's owed:

No. 13: Jake Bequette, DE, Arkansas

Arkansas' Jake Bequette
Jake Bequette finished with seven sacks for Arkansas last season.
2010 Numbers: He started all 13 games last season and was a second-team All-SEC selection. Bequette finished with 32 tackles, including 8.5 for loss and a career-high seven sacks, and tied for the team lead with five quarterback hurries. His sack total tied for fifth in the SEC. He also had a streak of recording a sack in four straight games last fall.

Most recent ranking: Not ranked in the 2010 postseason countdown.

Making the case for Bequette: The senior is one of the more unheralded players in the league, but he was one of the most consistent defensive ends around last season. His 6-5, 271-pound frame makes him a bear to handle and he has the strength and speed to get around and past opposing offensive tackles. Bequette is the wise old veteran on an Arkansas front that should be one of the most exciting to watch this season, especially when it comes to chasing down quarterbacks. But the versatile Bequette doesn't just spend all of his time harassing quarterbacks; he has the speed to drop back into coverage and can stand up like a linebacker at times. Bequette is the ultimate team player and should be leaned upon greatly by players this fall.
