Long delay in store for Auburn game

AUBURN, Ala. – Lightning and monsoon-like rain have delayed the start of the Auburn-West Virginia game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The game was scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m. ET, but a 9 p.m. start now looks more realistic, possibly even later.

When there’s lightning within a six-mile radius of the stadium, there’s an automatic 30-minute delay that is imposed by the SEC. If there’s no more lightning in that 30-minute window, 30 minutes are then put on the game clock and counted down. The teams then get some time to warm up after that.

So we’re officially in a rain (lightning) delay.

The field is completely under water, and it’s still thundering.

Several long-time Auburn officials said it’s the hardest they’ve seen it rain on a game day at Jordan-Hare Stadium since the 1950s.
