Poll: Which SEC coach has hottest seat?
By ESPN.com staff
You're never too far away from the hot seat in the SEC.
One bad season, even one bad game that mars an otherwise perfect season, can upset the fans to the point where they're wondering out loud if somebody else could do better at the reins of their beloved football program.
LSU's Les Miles went from the toast of Baton Rouge to some on the Bayou wishing he were toast after the Tigers' dreadful showing in their 21-0 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game last season.
Nevermind that LSU was 13-0 up until that point and had played one of the toughest schedules in recent SEC memory.
It's just the way it is in the SEC. You're only as good as your last championship or your last big win.
A year ago, it was Georgia's Mark Richt that everybody had squarely on the hot seat in the preseason.
As we point toward the 2012 season, we've decided to let you decide in our SportsNation poll which SEC coach has the hottest seat.
Richt is again one of the candidates that we've listed, but he no longer has the pole position after getting the Bulldogs to the SEC championship game last season. Still, you can't help but wonder if the Dawgs genuinely see him as their coach long term.
Tennessee's Derek Dooley desperately needs a big season in 2012 after back-to-back losing seasons. The same goes for Kentucky's Joker Phillips, who might have bought himself some more time with the win over Tennessee last season and snapping the Wildcats' 26-game losing streak in the series.
Florida's Will Muschamp is only in his second season, but they're not known for their patience in Swamp Land when you go 0-6 against teams that finished the season with a winning record.
Auburn's Gene Chizik won a national championship in 2010, but the knock on Chizik is that the Tigers have been pretty average in those seasons when Cam Newton wasn't playing quarterback on the Plains.
Again, SEC fans are never satisfied.
So we'll let you take it from here and decide who in the SEC needs to win the most in 2012.
