LSU adds Rob Bolden from Penn State

By Chris Low

LSU has added some insurance at quarterback, as several outlets are reporting that former Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden has decided to join the Tigers.

Bolden, a junior, has three years remaining to complete two years of eligibility. He's expected to report to campus today with the rest of the LSU players and begin practice on Thursday. He visited LSU's campus over the weekend.

Zach Mettenberger steps in as LSU's starting quarterback this season. Mettenberger has a big arm and played extremely well in the spring, but he only threw 11 passes last season. Behind Mettenberger, the Tigers have only redshirt freshmen Stephen Rivers and Jerrard Randall.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pound Bolden is a dual-threat quarterback. He started as a freshman for Penn State in 2010 before getting injured and split time with Matt McGloin last season.

The addition of Bolden helps offset the loss of freshman signee Jeremy Liggins of Oxford, Miss. Liggins, a highly-rated prospect, will attend Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College after reportedly not qualifying academically.
