Wrapping up Kentucky's 2013 signing class
By Chris Low
Mark Stoops' first signing class at Kentucky includes 22 players and ranks among the highest rated in school history.
The Wildcats checked in at No. 36 in ESPN's class rankings and were able to pry away ESPN 300 defensive end Jason Hatcher from USC on signing day. Getting Hatcher was equally big because he's from Louisville, and Stoops had made it a priority to keep the best players in-state at home.
Kentucky's other ESPN 300 signee was also an in-state prospect -- athlete Ryan Timmons of Frankfurt, Ky. Timmons announced on Tuesday that he would sign with Kentucky over Florida. Stoops called Timmons "a home-run threat every time he touches the ball."
Running back Jojo Kemp of DeLand, Fla., cornerback Jaleel Hytchye of Cincinnati and safety Marcus McWilson of Youngstown, Ohio, were key out-of-state additions for the Wildcats.
Kentucky signed six four-star prospects in this class. The Wildcats also brought in four junior college prospects. Defensive end Za'Darius Smith and receiver Javess Blue could be key contributors next season, and both were ranked among the top 15 junior college prospects in the country by ESPN.
