It was a given that Alabama's Rolando McClain was the top linebacker in the SEC this season.

But judging by the last two days, it's obvious that he's also the best linebacker in the country.

McClain was named Tuesday as the Butkus Award winner as the top linebacker in college football. Dick Butkus was on hand in Tuscaloosa to present the award to McClain, the second Alabama player to win the award. Derrick Thomas won it in 1988.

South Carolina's Eric Norwood and Florida's Brandon Spikes were also finalists for the Butkus Award.

On Monday, McClain received the Lambert Award, which also goes to the top linebacker nationally.

The 6-foot-4, 258-pound junior continues Alabama's tradition of outstanding linebackers, joining the likes of Lee Roy Jordan, Cornelius Bennett, Woodrow Lowe, DeMeco Ryan and Thomas.
