Washington Wizards G Gilbert Arenas met with authorities today to discuss his role in the gun incident that took place in the Wizards locker room December 21. Arenas says he arranged to meet with authorities at their earliest convenience to set the record straight about what happened. According to Arenas, he took the unloaded guns out of his locker as a joke and never pointed them or threatened anybody with them.
"Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong," Arenas said in his statement, "I should not have brought the guns to DC in the first place, and I now realize that there's no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns - even if unloaded. I am very sorry for the effect that my serious lapse in judgment has had on my team, my teammates, the National Basketball Association and its fans."
