Has Larry Bird Dunked His Last Chicken McNugget?

McDonald's found the perfect McMoustache and McBangs in Larry Bird.

Is it time for Larry Bird to finally hang up his McDonald's H-O-R-S-E jersey? PETA certainly thinks so. Three days after he appeared in a McDonald's Super Bowl ad featuring Dwight Howard and LeBron James, PETA asked Bird to stop endorsing McDonald's and join them in their fight against the use of chickens in McNuggets and other McDonald's sandwiches. For the record, they did not ask Larry to change his surname.

What's most surprising about PETA's recent request is it came after Bird was filmed eating a single fry and not after his "Big 33" commercial that aired in the early 90's. In the "Big 33" ad, Bird pronounces his love for burgers citing his normal order of either six regular hamburgers or three quarter-pounders. He then proceeds to introduce the brand new "Big 33," a quarter-pounder with cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and a few pickles and onions. His verdict upon gobbling down his own creation and almost swallowing his napkin, "pretty tasty."

Bird has yet to make a decision on his future with the golden arches as he was out of town Wednesday when PETA first contacted him. If the "Hick from French Lick" does in fact leave the home of the Big Mac, it could open the door for other athletes to join the McDonald's team. The timing is perfect for Three-Point Shootout contestant Channing Frye. If Frye fails to claim this weekend's sharpshooting title, Mickey D's could always opt for (wait for it ...) Broncos punter Mitch Berger. But the safest bet would probably be some Kobe Beef Bryant sandwiches. (Okay, we're done.)

Interestingly enough, Bird's McDonald's campaign is not his first provocative advertisement. We dug up some other interesting Larry Bird promotions.

1977 Sports Illustrated Cover - Shh ... Larry doesn't know he's wearing pinstripe short-shorts.

Julius Erving vs. Larry Bird One-on-One Basketball (for Atari and C64) - A shredded Erving, high socks and an amazing graffiti wall. Now it's clear where 21 Jump Street got its logo from.

Bird & Magic Converse - Magic tears off his warm-ups and Bird replies, "Show me what ya got!"

Scotch 'N Sirloin - Who doesn't do the wave after eating a juicy porterhouse?

MVP Poster - We respect the bangs and the cardigan, but once he added the striped socks into the equation Bird starts reminding us of Nanny from the Muppet Babies.
