Nomar Re-signs With Red Sox ... Retires
March 10, 2010 9:00 PM ET
Nomar Garciaparra retiring today ... and joining us here at ESPN. Garciaparra a 6-time all-star ... won 2 batting titles in Boston, but had played sparingly for the Dodgers and A's the last 2 years because of injuries. He signed a one day contract with the Red Sox so he could make his official announcement, with them.
The holy trio of shortstops ... for you kids out there ... was A-Rod, Jeter and Nomar. For an eight-year run, Garciaparra was among the game's best. From 1996 to 2003, only Larry Walker and Todd Helton had a higher batting average. Among shortstops, only Alex Rodriguez had more homers and RBI's.
Nomar will be a baseball analyst for us here at ESPN ... starting immediately.
