Brook Lopez and Devin Harris aren't happy to learn that their offseason workouts will soon be done "Rocky IV"-style.
With his "60 Minutes" interview Sunday night, Russian billionaire and prospective New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has introduced himself to the American people. In his first interview with American television, the 44-year-old Prokhorov stated his excitement "to take the worst team in the league and turn it to be the best."
This will be a tall order for Prokhorov, who will become the first NBA owner from outside North America if and when his purchase of an 80% stake in the Nets goes through. No doubt, Prokhorov, the second-richest man in Russia with a cool $17.8 billion, is up for the challenge.
Between the "60 Minutes" interview and an extensive article in the May issue of Bloomberg Markets magazine, Prokhorov projects himself as two parts Chuck Norris and one part the Most Interesting Man in the World. To prove this point, we've listed 10 facts about Prokhorov below - see if you can spot which false ones we added just for fun:
1. He hires production crews to record him performing backflips on a Jet Ski and then set the footage to music;
2. His shrewdest business decision - to sell his stake in a mining company - was a consequence of being at the center of a prostitution scandal at a French Alpine ski resort.
3. He lost a $53 million deposit when he decided not to purchase the world's most expensive home in the French Riviera (valued at $530 million).
4. He owns a $45 million yacht that he rarely uses because it makes him seasick.
5. He is Russian but he has never tasted vodka.
6. He does not have a cell phone or a computer and has only looked at the Internet three times.
7. Even when he was already extremely rich, he lived with his sister in a 500-square-foot apartment.
8. His first profitable business involved the manufacture of stonewashed jeans.
9. He works out two hours each day, including kickboxing with a coach of the Olympic team, and practices his jump shot on a basketball hoop installed down the hall from his office.
10. He admits to paying bribes, but the most recent one was 15 years ago.
Okay, which ones did we add? Can't figure it out, can you? That's because they're all true. The fascinating Prokhorov is all Bond, no villain. Really, at this point, we wouldn't be surprised to learn that he was also the bassist in Gorky Park.
