Pro Day For McCoy

Colt McCoy threw Wednesday at the Texas Longhorns' pro-day ... First time he's thrown in public since injuring his shoulder in the BCS championship game. McCoy is the third-rated quarterback in the draft according to most experts and is projected to go in the second round. After his performance, McCoy seemed pretty excited about what he'd done and what it may mean for his immediate future. He has plans to visit the Cleveland Browns just before the draft.

Reports: Porter Won't Face Charges

The district attorney's office said it will not file charges against Arizona Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter after his arrest on March 27 ... this according to multiple media reports in Bakersfield, California. Supervising Deputy District Attorney Mark Pafford said, "Based upon the information that was provided to us by the California Highway Patrol, we did not believe that there would be a reasonable likelihood that a jury would find Mr. Porter guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the allegations."

Tournament Expansion "Probable"

Get ready for more March Madness. When asked whether he sees the NCAA Tournament expanding from 65 to 96 teams, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told the USA Today that "it's probable". Delany's a former chairman of the committee that oversees the Tournament and says he will support the decision of the NCAA board of directors when they address the matter at a meeting on April 29 in Indianapolis.

Denard Span's Mother Struck By His Foul Ball

Minnesota Twins outfielder Denard Span hit a foul ball that struck his mother in the chest in the first inning of Wednesday's spring training game against the New York Yankees. Span's mother, Wanda Wilson, was watching the game with about 20 family members and friends. Span took a defensive swing against the Yankees Phil Hughes and hit a line drive towards her seat next to the Twins dugout. Span ran from the batters' box to the stands and stayed while paramedics treated her. Twins manager of baseball communications Dustin Morse said she was sore, but OK. Span returned to the plate with the count 3-2 and struck out looking on the next pitch.

Lidge Has A Sore Elbow

Phillies closer Brad Lidge has a sore throwing elbow, according to team doctor Michael Ciccotti. The injury is not structural, and is not related to the surgery Lidge had this offseason. The 33-year-old, who received a cortisone injection Tuesday, says he is not concerned by the injury and expects to long toss Friday and throw a bullpen session either Saturday or Sunday, depending on how his elbow feels.

Pitt Awards Dixon

One day after Pittsburgh awarded football coach Dave Wannstedt a contract extension, it did the same for men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon. Dixon had been signed through the 2015-16 season and was making more than $1.5 million per year. His name had been mentioned for some job openings in recent weeks, most notably at Oregon, but Wednesday's announcement ends speculation that Dixon will leave Pitt this year.

A Busy April For Clausen

Notre Dame junior QB Jimmy Clausen has a busy month ahead of him; before his April 9 Pro Day at Notre Dame, Clausen is scheduled to hold a private work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars in South Bend, a source told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. After his Pro Day, the 22-year-old Clausen is scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills, St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns. Clausen also planned a private workout with the Washington Redskins at Notre Dame. The NFL Draft begins April 22 and ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper projects Clausen to go 4th overall to the Washington Redskins.

Wade Wins Off-the-Court

Dwayne Wade is no stranger to victories on the court; now the Heat star has a victory IN court. A federal judge has dismissed a $90-million lawsuit against Wade filed by some former business partners who claimed Wade violated anti-trust laws by backing out of a restaurant venture.

Jets vs. Giants In New Stadium

The NFL released the pre-season schedule and what better way to get things started than a Big Apple showdown between the New York Giants and the New York Jets? Monday, August 16th the preseason schedule kicks off with the two New York based teams opening their brand new $1.6 billion stadium on ESPN. This is the 42nd consecutive season the Giants and Jets will meet in the preseason with the Jets holding the series lead 22-18-1.

Rooney To Return To England

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is scheduled to return to England after injuring his right ankle in Tuesday's loss to Bayern Munich in Germany. He will have a scan in the next day or so, and remains doubtful for Saturday's Premiership clash with Chelsea.
