John Clayton: Inside The Huddle

RESTORING THE ROAR: Jimmy Clausen (#2) isn't the only quarterback exciting the Carolina Panthers' front office. Former Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards (#10), a third-rounder who is making the transition to wide receiver, shows promise to give the Panthers a slot option they haven't had since Ricky Proehl successfully opened the middle for Jake Delhomme.
WEST COAST REUNION: LenDale White believes he can relive his successful day at USC now that he has reunited with Pete Carroll in Seattle. White was a 1,300-yard runner and touchdown scorer at USC when he played Mr. Inside to Reggie Bush's Mr. Outside. Leon Washington and Justin Forsett will be the outside threats, and the former 250-pound White now is a trim 218, his lowest weight since high school.
MR. PALMER, MEET MR. GRESHAM: Jermaine Gresham's pass catching ability from the tight-end position convinced the Bengals to pass on Dez Bryant and fill an offensive void that has existed since the mid-1990s. You have to go back 13 seasons--to the days of Tony McGee--to find a Bengals tight end who caught more 31 passes. Now, Gresham could offer the Bengals a Kellen Winslow-like threat.
BITING BACK: The Lions wanted the best for quarterback Matthew Stafford, which is why they traded-up so they could draft the big-play ability of halfback Jahvid Best. The Lions ranked 31st last season with only five running plays of 20 or more yards. Best had 34 runs of 20 or more yards, including 11 of 60 or more, during his career at Cal.
