Mega Conferences:
College Football Conference Jumble

With all the talk of college football expansion, we decided to sit down and create some HYPOTHETICAL mega conferences. Today, it was reported the Pac-10 and the Big 12 met in Phoenix to talk about the possibility of forming a television alliance and scheduling partnership. This would not be a merger, but an alliance. This comes on the heels of the Big Ten expansion plans. So with expansion and alliance all the rage, let's gather around the campfire and talk hypothetically about how the 4 new MEGA conferences might look. Let the debate begin:

Mega Conference Big 10
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
Adding: Notre Dame, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Nebraska

We start our hypothetical look of conference expansion in the Big Ten. If we have a major realignment in college football, Notre Dame would be the biggest jewel for any conference to land (with the history, touchdown Jesus, National Championships, stadium and large national fan base). So by adding ND, the Big Ten would now have 12 teams...and that's a big IF. But with all the talk coming from the conference that they are eyeing 16 teams, we've added Missouri and Nebraska from the Big 12, Pitt and Syracuse from the Big East. Could you imagine Nebraska playing Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State every year in football? Pittsburgh makes a great in-state rival with Penn State.

Mega Conference SEC
Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Adding: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas AM

Now that the Big Ten has completed their re-alignment, what might the Southeastern Conference look like? The SEC is on record saying they will be proactive as opposed to reactive. College football fans can get excited with the thought of Oklahoma and Texas playing Alabama, Florida and LSU on a regular basis. You have to keep rivals Texas A and M with Texas and Oklahoma State with the Oklahoma, which rounds out the SEC to 16 members.

Mega Conference Pac-10
Arizona, Arizona St, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State
Adding: Colorado, Utah, BYU, TCU, Kansas, Kansas State

In the PAC-10, with such a large base of alumni on the west coast, Colorado has stated they are interested in joining the PAC-10. That leaves 5 teams that have to be added to the PAC-10. TCU helps the conference get into the Dallas market and by adding Kansas and Kansas State, that would give the conference a boost in basketball.

Mega Conference ACC
Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Adding: Connecticut, Rutgers, West Virginia, South Florida

The ACC would have to follow suit and add 4 teams. Rutgers helps bring a stronger presence in the New York market. South Florida gives the conference another in-state rival for FSU and Miami. Unfortunately, several teams are left out the 4 MEGA conferences. Teams Left Out: Cincinnati, Baylor, Boise State, Texas Tech, Louisville, Iowa State, Fresno State, Houston, Memphis, San Diego State and Wyoming. One thing is for sure, Cincinnati, Louisville and Texas Tech would be a great addition for any conference to grab.

So, that's our take. What do you think? How would you re-draw the map? Post your comments below and detail how you see things shaping up, or send us a TWEET @SportsCenter.
