Cleveland Cavalier's owner Dan Gilbert has not fired head coach Mike Brown. "We are right now going through the evaluation process." said Gilbert. Brown, who won the NBA's Coach of the Year Award last year, has compiled a 272-138 record in five seasons leading the Cavaliers, including a trip to the 2007 NBA Finals.
Less than a week after being swept by the Magic, the Hawks will not bring back head coach Mike Woodson. In his 6 years in Atlanta, Woodson's win total rose each season but his 11-18 record in the postseason led to his downfall.
A 23-year-old woman has come forward as a defense witness in the sexual assault case against Lawrence Taylor. The woman says in a sworn statement given to defense investigators that she accompanied the 16-year-old-girl to a Holiday Inn in suburban New York to meet Taylor. The woman said after the girl met Taylor she returned to the car with $300 cash and told her that she did not have sex with Taylor. Taylor is facing charges of third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute. He is due in court June 10.
The investigation into the death of Yeardley Love, a senior on Virginia's women's lacrosse team, is 75-80% complete, a police source told ESPN's Bob Holtzman. George Huguely, a senior on the men's team, is still being held at the Charlottesville Regional Jail after being charged with first-degree murder in Love's death.
Donovan McNabb is the quarterback of the Washington Redskins, but he again, expressed an apology sorry for not winning a title for the Philadelphia Eagles. The 33-year-old QB led the team to five NFC Championship Game appearances and a berth in Super Bowl XXXIX, a three point loss to the New England Patriots.
David Beckham may be at the 2010 World Cup after all. Beckham says he hopes to be able to accept an offer from England coach Fabio Capello to join the coaching staff. Beckham tore his Achillies tendon in March. The 2010 FIFIA World Cup starts June 11 on ESPN at 10AM ET.
After spending time in the hospital dealing with complications from his battle with throat and neck cancer, George Karl said he's feeling better and plans to return to the Denver Nuggets bench next season as coach, the Denver Post reported. "I'll be excited to be back on the bench -- that's what I do, that's the dream," Karl told the newspaper Thursday.
It was one-and-done for some of his players (see John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton) but John Calipari is assuring Kentucky fans that he will not be joining that list. Despite several reports linking him to wherever LeBron James lands next season, he said on Twitter today that he will return to Kentucky.
LeBron James is not the only agent who's free to leave Cleveland this offseason. Shaquille O'Neal's $20 million salary also comes off the books. But that doesn't mean he's ready for the history books. He told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "I missed 360 games because of injury in my career, so by my calculations I still have 3.7 years left. I still feel I can play this game." O'Neal said.
