Cincinnati is winning behind an offense that ranks first in the NL in runs (427), homers (106) and slugging percentage (.448), with Joey Votto and All-Star second baseman Brandon Phillips leading the charge. They'll send Johnny Cueto to the hill for the series-opener. Cueto has a 0.70 ERA over his last 4 starts (2 ER/25.2 IP). 2010 All-Star Andy Pettitte looks for a third-consecutive victory while trying to help the Yankees match a season-high sixth-straight win Thursday night in Seattle. Pettitte has struggled at times against the Mariners, going 10-11 with a 4.51 ERA. He is 2-3 in his last six starts versus Seattle, but has a 2.76 ERA during that span. The Mariners hope Jason Vargas can avoid a third-straight loss when he opens the series tonight. Vargas allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 6-1 loss at Detroit Saturday. Returning home could help the left-hander, who is 5-1 with a 2.30 ERA in nine starts at Safeco. Ichiro Suzuki is a lifetime .389 hitter against Pettitte.
