Roy Oswalt officially accepted his proposed trade to the Philadelphia Phillies. Oswalt decided to waive his no-trade clause Thursday in order to be dealt for left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, outfielder Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar.
Tebow, Broncos Agree to Five-Year Deal
ESPN's Ed Werder reports that the Denver Broncos and Tim Tebow agreed to terms on a multi-year contract Thursday that will allow him to report to camp immediately. Tebow's first practice will be Friday. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that the contract is for 5 years, $11.25 million with $8.7 million guaranteed.
Strasburg Goes on the DL
Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The move is retroactive to July 22, a day after he made his last appearance.
Owens Practices Wearing No. 81
Better late than never. Terrell Owens joined his new Bengals teammates at training camp Thursday. "T.O." missed an overnight flight, but arrived in time for the evening practice with his new teammates. "I think this team is special," Owens said. "I really feel that there is something around the corner for this team. With me being here, (it) has really created a buzz. I think the guys feel the energy."
No HR for A-Rod in Yankees' 11-4 Win Against Cleveland
Alex Rodriguez is still searching for HR #600. Rodriguez hit with the bases loaded three times, but couldn't deliver the milestone homer. A-Rod will take his quest for homer history to Tampa Bay for a three-game series against the second-place Rays, who trail New York by two games in the AL East. Raiders Sign First-Round Pick Rolando McClain
First-round pick Rolando McClain signed with the Oakland Raiders hours before the start of their first training camp practice Thursday. Adam Schefter reports the deal is for 5 years, $40 million with $23 million guaranteed. The middle linebacker is just the third 1st-round pick to sign a contract and at No. 8 the highest overall pick to do so.
Vince Young Won't be Disciplined by NFL
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he will not suspend Titans quarterback Vince Young over a tussle at a Dallas strip club in June. Goodell said Thursday that he saw no reason for any disciplinary action over the incident after meeting with Young earlier this week. Young received a misdemeanor assault citation for his role in the incident.
Report: Haynesworth Fails Conditioning Test
Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth failed his conditioning test Thursday, according to FoxSports.com. Haynesworth finished the first part of the test, but walked through the second portion. Coach Mike Shanahan now will decide whether or not he can practice with the team.
Police: Wright Died From Gunshot Wound
Former NBA big man Lorenzen Wright was shot to death and the case is being investigated as a homicide, police said Thursday. Police wouldn't answer questions about motive or suspects in the case.
Orioles Hire Showalter as Manager
The Buck stops in Baltimore. Former ESPN analyst Buck Showalter was hired Thursday to be the Orioles' manager. The team's new skipper will make his managerial debut with the club Tuesday night at Camden Yards against the Los Angeles Angels.
NCAA Adds to Arizona's Own Hoop Sanctions
The NCAA placed the University of Arizona men's basketball program on two years probation and vacated 19 wins from the 2007-08 season for violations involving Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson. The punishment includes the loss of an additional scholarship in 2012-13.
