Ilya Kovalchuk's Contract Approved
Ilya Kovalchuk has a deal with the Devils, and it has been approved by the NHL. The league signed off on a new 15-year, $100 million contract after reaching an agreement with the NHL Players Association on an amendment covering long-term deals. The NHL rejected New Jersey's initial offer because it violated the league's salary cap. An arbiter upheld that decision after the union filed a grievance. Jay Grossman, Kovalchuk's agent, confirmed the agreement in an e-mail, according to The Associated Press.
