Cardinals Done With Leinart

The Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Matt Leinart. Leinart went in to the offseason as the heir apparent to Kurt Warner as quarterback of the pass-happy Cardinals but was unable to distinguish himself from free agent acquisition Derek Anderson in the eyes of head coach Ken Whisenhunt. With Leinart out of Arizona, the Cardinals look to a pair of rookies -- John Skelton and Max Hall -- to back up Anderson.

St. Louis Rams Name Sam Bradford Starting Quarterback

Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo named QB Sam Bradford as the starter for the St. Louis Cardinals today. Bradford will start, ahead of A.J. Feeley. Bradford’s preseason numbers and A.J. Feeley’s injury brought on the move. Bradford completed 33 of 55 passes, with 338 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He moved to first string when the veteran Feeley, who had been the starter through training camp, sprained the thumb on his throwing hand. Spagnuolo said he anticipated that Feeley would return to practice on Monday but wasn't sure if he was ready to take direct snaps.

Running back Willie Parker is changing teams. The Washington Redskins informed Parker on Saturday that he will be released, according to a league source. The Redskins signed Parker in the spring to a one-year deal, telling him there would be an open competition for the starting job, with Larry Johnson, Clinton Portis and Ryan Torain also in the mix. Parker, a Pro Bowler in 2006 and 2007, averaged 1,337 yards in three seasons for the Steelers from 2005 to 2007.
