Traditionally, Tom Brady has been a fast starter, completing 64 percent of his passes and averaging more than a touchdown pass a game in the first half of games in his career, but his unexplainable failures in the second half of games this season have been a big part of the Patriots five road losses. In those five losing second halves, Brady has a completion percentage of just 52.9, with only two touchdown passes and a meager quarterback rating of 60, leading to just 24 points.

Antonio Gates returned to the Cleveland area where he played college basketball at Kent State and let Philip Rivers show how basketball-like pass-catchers have transformed the Chargers' offense. Even against tight coverage, Rivers isn't afraid to let fly high tosses to 6-4 Gates, 6-5 Vincent Jackson and 6-5 Malcolm Floyd, allowing Rivers to be second only to Drew Brees with 46 20-yard-plus completions.

Late this season, Charlie Weis suggested Notre Dame Jimmy Clausen skip his senior year and turn pro, and now the two could reunite. Starting with the Rams, who probably will use this draft to find an eventual replacement for Marc Bulger, Weis is an offensive coordinator candidate for teams looking to draft Clausen, Sam Bradford or another top college quarterback. But those who fall in love with Clausen particularly will be interested in having Weis take Clausen's development further in the pros.

Lance Moore's numerous injuries this season have allowed Robert Meachem to begin living up to his first-round draft status in 2007. Inactive his entire rookie year and only used on occasional deep routes last season, Meachem has earned Drew Brees' trust because he's better on the shorter routes and hasn't dropped a pass. In the last five games, Meachem has 21 catches for 346 yards and six touchdowns and also turned a Brees' interception into a stripped fumble touchdown return Sunday against the Redskins.
