Shanahan: McNabb Not In Good Enough Shape
Mike Shanahan has a new explanation for benching Donovan McNabb. The Washington Redskins coach says the quarterback wasn't in good enough shape to run a two-minute offense with no timeouts. Shanahan on Monday said McNabb has been struggling with hamstring injuries for five weeks and didn't have the "cardiovascular endurance" to stay on the field with the game on the line against Detroit. Shanahan said he even considered not playing McNabb at all against the Lions.
Washington's Locker Ruled Out At No. 1 Oregon
Washington's upcoming test at No. 1 Oregon on Saturday just got a lot tougher with news that quarterback Jake Locker won't play due to a fractured rib. Locker has been trying to play through the injury, which was aggravated in the Huskies' loss to Stanford. He first injured the rib against Oregon State on Oct. 16.
Iowa Won't Be Penalized In Kutcher-Recruit Flap
Iowa says the NCAA won't penalize the Hawkeyes for allowing two basketball recruits to meet celebrity fans Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. The school said Monday that the NCAA ruled the actions by Iowa staffers were "secondary" in nature and both unintentional and accidental. Iowa also said the recruits have been fully cleared.
