Cal Clutterbuck and his Minnesota Wild teammates celebrate the start of Movember.
For the professional hockey players looking for just the right accessory to match their mullets, we may have found just the thing for you. Have you considered a mo? That would be slang for a moustache for the uninitiated and now may be the perfect time to give it a shot. That's because, if you haven't heard, it's Movember!
What exactly is Movember, you ask? Well, it's a celebration of the mo - slang for moustache - during the month of November. But it's also a fundraiser for types of cancer that specifically affect men (funds raised through Movember's US campaign benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation).
The rules are simple: growers start Movember 1st clean-shaven and a grow a moustache for the entire month. Which means you can easily recognize participants at this point (one week in) by the sketchiness on their upper lips.
The Minnesota Wild are leading the Movember charge in the NHL this year by encouraging players to grow their moustaches, offering free tickets to a fan with the best mo, and even supporting the official Twitter account of winger Cal Clutterbuck's stache (@ClutterStache).
Of course, the Wild aren't alone on the ice in their quest this month. The Washington Capitals are also one of the many teams on board, and so is George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks, who shaved his world class "moustache of doom" only to grow it back for Movember. Now that's dedication to the cause.
So if you want to learn more, drop your razor and head over to Movember.com. And if you're growing a mo, then please, Tweet us your pictures - we'd love to seem them.
