EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams got back to work Wednesday with a few notable names not participating in practice.

Defensive end Chris Long sat out with what the Rams called a thigh injury. Rookie running back Zac Stacy joined him on the sidelines, again listed with a chest injury.

Stacy battled the same ailment last week and followed what has now become common for the team's starting running back: sit out Wednesday, return on a limited basis Thursday, full go Friday and play Sunday.

Joining Long and Stacy as non-participants in Wednesday's practice were cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who continues to sit because of a thigh injury, and running back Benny Cunningham, who is listed with an ankle injury.

From first glance, Cunningham's injury appears the most serious. He had the ankle on a "roll-about" which is essentially crutches on wheels and it was wrapped with ice.

Finnegan has not played since the San Francisco game Sept. 26.

Linebacker Daren Bates was listed as limited with a hip injury suffered against Houston last week.

On the bright side for the Rams, offensive tackle Rodger Saffold was back in the mix. Saffold returned to practice from a knee injury last week and was not even listed on Wednesday's injury report.

Notable for Carolina, defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (hamstring) and tight end Greg Olsen (foot) did not practice.
