Power Rankings: No. 19 St. Louis Rams

A weekly examination of the Rams' ESPN.com Power Ranking:

Preseason: 15 | Last week: 21 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002

After a second consecutive convincing win, this time a 42-21 decision over the Chicago Bears, the Rams moved up a couple of spots in this week's Power Rankings as they edge closer to the 15th spot they held in the preseason.

The six-member voting panel had one of its largest ranges of where to put the Rams this season. Kevin Seifert and John Clayton actually had the Rams all the way down at 22 while Mike Sando had the Rams racing up the rankings at No. 14. Jamison Hensley also saw the need for a bigger upgrade for the Rams, bumping them up to No. 16. Ashley Fox and Dan Graziano provided the middle ground by putting St. Louis at No. 19.

To me, a 30-point win against Indianapolis and a 21-point win against Chicago probably merits a little larger bump than two spots, especially considering the Rams dropped a spot when they were on bye last week. The Rams are the only 5-6 team in the NFC while the AFC has six in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, the New York Jets, Miami, San Diego and Tennessee. St. Louis sits ahead of three of those teams (the Jets, Titans and Dolphins) but checks in behind the Steelers, Ravens and Chargers. Green Bay, at 5-5-1, is two spots ahead of the Rams.

Putting the Rams in the middle of the 5-6 teams is reasonable, but given the way the Rams have rolled up impressive wins the past two games, I'd probably place them higher than Baltimore, Green Bay and Pittsburgh but behind San Diego.
