What we learned in Stanford's 24-10 win over UCLA:

Cardinal remains determined: A day after the Cardinal's loss to Utah last week, the team saw its highest turnout in years at the optional weight-lifting session, according to coach David Shaw. Stanford had been losing its physical edge, but that changed against UCLA. The Cardinal has not lost back-to-back games since 2009.

Oregon, Stanford remain on top: There was some speculation -- based on UCLA's undefeated record -- that it was the Bruins most likely to challenge Oregon for Pac-12 supremacy. That's not the case. Stanford clearly showed it was the better team and Nov. 7 -- when Oregon travels to Stanford -- remains the date to circle in the Pac-12 regular season.

Montgomery has help: Wide receiver Kodi Whitfield's one-handed, 30-yard touchdown reception was among the most amazing plays by a Stanford player in the last couple of seasons. If players other than receiver Ty Montgomery can also showcase the ability to make athletic plays, Stanford has the ability to be more dynamic offensively.
