Pac-12 recruiting roundup

By Kevin Gemmell

Here's a look at what's been happening around the conference the past few weeks on the recruiting front.

ARIZONA

2013 verbal commitments: 25
Spotlight: Madison High in San Diego has quietly built a nice little powerhouse and running back factory. Pierra Cormier, the latest Wildcats commit and the 39th-rated running back in the country, is an elusive, multi-purpose back who should fit in nicely with Rich Rodriguez's system. Here's a video of him chatting about his goals in 2012.

ARIZONA STATE

2013 verbal commitments: 10
Spotlight: The latest commit, kicker Matt Haack of West Des Moines, Iowa, is described by scouts as a talented athlete with a lot of potential. The power and the leg are there, but he's going to need to improve his mechanics at the next level.

ESPN 300 members: 1 (Joshua Dobbs, QB, Alpharetta, Ga.)

CALIFORNIA

2013 verbal commitments: 10
Spotlight: Athlete Darius Allensworth (Romoland, Calif.) passed on offers from five other Pac-12 schools. Could either play receiver or defensive back at the next level. Scouts note his ability to compete for the football in coverage and hint that he's probably stronger in the secondary because of his anticipation when jumping routes.

ESPN 300 members: 2 (Jared Goff, QB, Kentfield, Calif.; Cameron Hunt, OT, Corona, Calif.)

COLORADO

2013 verbal commitments: 13
Spotlight: Cornerback Devin E. Ross (Mission Hills, Calif.) has shown good quickness and run-stopping ability -- a must if you want to be a cornerback in the Pac-12. He's the 48th-ranked corner in the nation and scouts note his toughness and the athleticism to play immediately if warranted.

OREGON

2013 verbal commitments: 8

Spotlight: No new commits for the Ducks since our last update. Athlete Dontre Wilson remains the top recruit and is one of two ESPN 150 players for the Ducks. The burst and breakaway speed in his recruiting video is ridiculous.
ESPN 150 members: 2 (Dontre Wilson, athlete, DeSoto, Texas; Thomas Tyner, RB, Aloha, Ore.)
ESPN 300 members: 3 (Evan Voeller, OT, West Linn, Ore.)

OREGON STATE

2013 verbal commitments: 5
Spotlight: The Beavers continue to go after offense, targeting and getting a commitment from tight end David Ajamu earlier this month. At 6-foot-5, 231 pounds, he'll likely pack on more weight when he gets to the next level. Has experience playing on the line and also splitting out. Should be a nice red-zone target in a few years.

STANFORD

2013 verbal commitments: 7
Spotlight: The Cardinal dipped into Utah's backyard when they picked up four-star outside linebacker Sean Barton (Woods Cross, Utah), the 35th-rated OLB in the nation. He's a fantastic athlete and also plays running back and wide receiver. But that athleticism will serve him well as his collegiate future is likely on defense.
ESPN 150 members: 2 (Ryan Burns, QB, Ashburn Va.; Isaac Savaiinaea, ILB, Honolulu)
ESPN 300 members: 4 (Doug Randolph, OLB, Woodberry Forest, Va.; Francis Owusu, WR, Westlake Village, Calif.)

UCLA

2013 verbal commitments: 11
Spotlight: John Lopez (Orange, Calif.) became the fourth offensive linemen to commit to the Bruins, so it's pretty clear what their targets were early. Lopez is a big get for UCLA -- literally and figuratively. At 6-6, 315 pounds, he's the No. 13-rated guard in the country.
ESPN 150 members: 1 (Deon Hollins Jr., OLB, Missouri City, Texas)
ESPN 300 members: 1 (John Lopez, OG, Orange, Calif.)

USC

2013 verbal commitments: 18
Spotlight: No updates to offer from the Trojans since our last roundup. So instead, here's a recruiting video from the No. 1 safety in the country. Enjoy.
ESPN 150 members: 12 (Kenny Bigelow, DT, Elkton, Md.; Su'a Cravens, S, Murrieta, Calif.; Max Browne, QB, Sammamish Wash.; Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, Auburn, Calif.; Max Redfield, athlete, Mission Viejo, Calif.; Michael Hutchings, OLB, Concord, Calif.; Jalen Ramsey, CB, Brentwood Tenn.; Ty Isaac, RB, Joliet, Ill.; Chris Hawkins, CB, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; Kylie Fitts, DE, Redlands, Calif.; Steven Mitchell, WR, Mission Hills, Calif.; Sebastian LaRue, WR, Santa Monica, Calif.)
ESPN 300 members: 17 (Eldridge Massington, WR, Mesquite, Texas; Justin Davis, RB, Stockton, Calif.; Nico Falah, OT, Bellflower, Calif.; Torrodney Prevot, DE, Houston; Jason Hatcher, DE, Louisville, Ky.)

UTAH

2013 verbal commitments: 14
Spotlight: Since our last update, Utah has added three players -- all on offense -- including two wide receivers and a running back. To be competitive year after year in the conference, the Utes will have to build up their depth. A wide receiver like X'avier Shepherd (Lakewood, Calif.) might turn out to be a fantastic player. He passed on Colorado, Oregon State and UCLA -- proof that the Utes are starting to carve their own niche in Pac-12 recruiting.

WASHINGTON

2013 verbal commitments: 19
Spotlight: The Huskies have not-so-quietly put together one of the strongest classes in the conference. With some A-list recruits already committed, they can take a shot on a player like Kevin King (Oakland, Calif.), the latest commit. He's a tall cornerback at 6-2, 172 with scary sleeper potential if he adds weight to his frame. A physical corner who is taller than 6 feet would be a major asset in this conference.
ESPN 150 members: 2 (Damore'ea Stringfellow, WR, Morena Valley, Calif.; Darrell Daniels, WR, Oakley, Calif.)
ESPN 300 members: 4 (Troy Williams, QB, Harbor City, Calif.; Elijah Qualls, DT, Petaluma, Calif.)

WASHINGTON STATE

2013 verbal commitments: 12
Spotlight: No movement from the Cougars since they went on that mad June-July dash. Inside linebacker Peyton Pelluer (Sammamish, Wash.), the 25th-rated ILB nationally, and quarterback Tyler Bruggman (Phoenix) headline a balanced class that is six-six so far on offense and defense.
