The Australian Open semifinals will feature two heavyweights on the men’s side. Top seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 seed Roger Federer will meet for the 45th time, the second-most meetings between men in the Open era.
We preview the matchup:
Djokovic has never led the series at any point but has changed the tone of the rivalry. Federer won 13 of their first 19 meetings, but since the start of 2011, Djokovic has a 16-9 record against Federer and has won six of their eight Grand Slam meetings.
Djokovic is looking to match Roy Emerson’s all-time mark of six Australian Open titles. Each of the five previous times he has reached the semifinals in Melbourne, he has gone on to win the title. He would become the 10th man all-time to win at least six Grand Slam titles at any one major tournament.
