A scan of the college basketball box scores each night guarantees all kinds of statistical oddities and standout performances. Here are some we found from Wednesday:
Xavier 84, Rhode Island 66
Xavier’s Tu Holloway scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win. At six feet tall, Holloway is the shortest player this season to record double-digit rebounds in a 20-point effort.
Notre Dame 55, West Virginia 51
West Virginia’s Darryl “Truck” Bryant went scoreless despite playing the full 40 minutes. He's the first player this season to play an entire regulation game without mustering a point.
Virginia 68, Wake Forest 44
Virginia’s Mike Scott went 9-for-9 from the field in the win. He's the first player to make at least nine field goals without a miss in an ACC game since Maryland’s Steve Francis on Jan. 10, 1999.
Boston College 64, Florida State 60
Boston College’s bench went scoreless in 48 minutes played, tying Seton Hall (Nov. 17 vs. VCU) for the most minutes played this season by a Big Six bench without scoring a point.
Wichita State 82, Northern Iowa 57
Wichita State’s bench made all four of the team’s free throws attempts in the win. The Shockers are the fourth team this season to win a game without a starter reaching the charity stripe.
Bradley 68, Indiana State 60
Bradley’s Walt Lemon Jr. made 15 free throws in 31 minutes off the bench, tying him for the most free throws made by a substitute this season. Braves starters combined to make 10 free throws in 141 minutes played.
