Alex Rodriguez's quest to become the seventh player with 600 MLB home runs will continue into the weekend. The Yankee third baseman went 0-4 in Friday night's 3-2 loss to the Rays.
Since A-Rod hit his 599th home run on July 22nd, he is just 4-21 (.190) with one extra-base hit against fastballs. Through July 22nd, he hit .292 against heaters with 13 of his 16 home runs coming on fastballs.
Rodriguez has now gone eight straight games with at least four at-bats and zero home runs. That's tied for his second-longest such streak since joining the Yankees in 2004. The longest stretch was a 12-game span during the 2009 season.
A-Rod has done well against Matt Garza, who will start for the Rays Saturday night. He's gone 7-15 with one homer against the righty. Rodriguez's lone HR came on a slider in his third at-bat against Garza. In their last meeting (9/7/2009), A-Rod went 3-3 with a double -- all three hits were against the fastball.
