Is 'Trevor Time' running out?

By ESPN Stats & Info

What was meant to be somewhat of a coronation for Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman as he moves closer to 600 saves has instead become a disaster. On Wednesday, Hoffman blew his fourth save of the season, which matches his entire total from 2009.

Hoffman's main issue has been keeping the ball in the park. Ryan Doumit's game-tying blast off him on Wednesday was already the sixth he has allowed this season (third in the last two days). A few other notes on the long ball struggles:

* The six HR allowed is triple what Hoffman gave up in 2009

* Doumit became just the second player ever to hit two HR off Hoffman in the same season (Dante Bichette was the other)

* Of Hoffman's 18 MLB seasons, he's allowed fewer than six HR in nine of them.

But, the good news for Hoffman is that by allowing just a solo home run, his ERA actually fell to 13.00 after Wednesday's appearance.

Hoffman's changeup, which has been his out-pitch throughout his career, clearly hasn't been as effective this season. The ineffectiveness of that changeup has led Hoffman to throw more fastballs - Hoffman's fastball velocity is hovering around 85.5 mph in 2010. Four of the six home runs that the Brewers closer has given up this year have been off fastballs.
