Behind the box scores: Monday's games
A scan of the college basketball box scores each night guarantees all kinds of statistical oddities and standout performances. Here are some we found from Monday.
Morgan State 73, Delaware State 72
Delaware State grabbed just 12 rebounds, only four of which came on the defensive glass. Both are the fewest this season, and no team had recorded four or fewer defensive rebounds since 1999. Incredibly, Delaware State would have won the game had its fans not charged the court after a go-ahead put-back dunk with a second to go. The Hornets were assessed a technical foul, and Morgan State converted both free throws to win the game.
Savannah State 62, North Carolina A&T 50
Savannah State’s Deric Rudolph took 20 shots, all of which were 3-point attempts (he made five). The 20 3-point attempts match Terrell Stoglin’s 20 (Feb. 1 vs Miami) for the most attempted this year. Rudolph is the third player in the last 15 seasons to take at least 20 3-point attempts without attempting a 2-pointer.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff 68, Grambling State 53
Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Jaylon Floyd played 14 minutes and did not record a stat, matching the longest such appearance this season.
