Power Rankings: Titans take over as No. 32

There wasn’t much movement in the top 10 of the weekly ESPN.com NFL Power Rankings this week, and the top three teams all kept their spot. On the other end of the spectrum, however, a new No. 32 was crowned.

The Titans have taken over as the new “worst” team in the NFL after the Jaguars and Raiders have traded the position for most of the season.

The Titans, Raiders and Jaguars are three of the five 2-11 teams this season. Each team has been bad, but has any really been worse than another?

No. 28 – New York Jets

Passing Comparison This Season

The Jets have been one of the worst teams when it comes to quarterback play this season on both sides of the ball. The Jets rank 31st in offensive Total QBR and last in defensive QBR. In fact, the numbers put up by Jets opponents this season most closely resemble those of Tom Brady.

No. 29 – Oakland Raiders

This is the highest ranking for the Raiders all season. While the team has certainly struggled this season, it hasn’t been dealt the easiest schedule, either.

The Raiders have played 13 games this season, and 11 of those have been against teams that are currently above .500. That has led to the hardest strength of schedule.

The Raiders rank 32nd in rushing this season and have just recently gotten Latavius Murray involved. Murray has 27 rushes for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders’ wins this season, and 54 yards and no scores on 10 rushes in their losses.

No. 30 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Of the 2-11 teams, the Buccaneers have had the easiest strength of schedule this season. They also have the best point differential of the five 2-11 teams.

The Buccaneers have been close to winning a lot of games this season at the very least. Eight of their 13 games have been decided by eight or fewer points, tied for the most such games in the NFL (Jets). However, the Buccaneers are 1-7 in those games.

Tampa Bay has been home to the worst home field this season. The Bucs are the only team without a win at home this season (0-6).

No. 31 – Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars Total QBR – Last 4 Seasons

The Jaguars have the worst point differential in the NFL this season, being outscored by 157 points. The Jags have the fewest points scored and the fourth-most points allowed.

Even after using the third pick in the 2014 NFL Draft on Blake Bortles, the Jaguars have had the worst quarterback play in the NFL this season, posting a 21.6 Total QBR. No team has taken more sacks (54) or thrown more interceptions (17) this season.

No. 32 – Tennessee Titans

The Titans own the longest losing streak in the NFL, dropping seven since they beat the Jaguars in Week 6. Of the five 2-11 teams, the Titans have the worst strength of victory, beating teams who are a combined 9-17.

What has been the Titans’ downfall? The offense has struggled as its leading passer and rusher are both rookies, but the defense has been the biggest problem spot. Only the Bears (29.1 PPG) have allowed more points than the Titans (28.8) this season.

The next two weeks will determine if the Titans are deserving of the 32nd ranking as they take on the Jets and Jaguars (both 2-11).
